On a windy night this past August, more than 250 Minneapolites gathered on the rooftop at Brit's Pub ready to get their down dog on. Jen, Director of Programming for YogaFit Studios, led the one-hour class, while DJ Omaur dropped some sick beats.
The forecast showed heavy rain on the way, but that didn’t stop anyone from attending! It began to drizzle as people were getting settled on their mats., despite the gloomy skies. Soon the house was packed, and DJ Omaur was revving up yogis with a mix of hip hop and dance-pop music.
The rain stopped just in time for class to begin. Jen led the class through one of YogaFit Studios' signature formats, YogaFlow. Yogis of all levels moved through this well-rounded class, reaping the benefits of postures and movements that worked to build strength and improve flexibility. The wind from the storm sifted through the crowd, making for an added challenge.
“Flowing alongside friends surrounded by the Minneapolis skyline was incredible!” Minneapolis attendee Caitlin said. This event was a huge success ending with everyone gathering for a group photo on the lawn and sampling Brit’s best brews.
This summer, YogaFit Linden Hills offered its Yoga by the Fountain class every Thursday during June, July and August. The free class was held outdoors near the Linden Hills studio with a focus on a peaceful practice with an added challenge to block out the surrounding noise.
Typically, 10-15 students attend the outdoor classes, and the general consensus is it is a very calming event that everyone loves! As an added bonus, local businesses have jumped on board in support of Yoga by the Fountain. Many offer happy hour pricing after the class, and various stores contribute coupons to be handed out during the event. There is also always a chance for attendees to win a free 3-month membership to YogaFit – a prize everyone is excited about!
Yoga by the Fountain has been an excellent way for YogaFit to become more tight-knit with the Linden Hills community. Not only does it show that the studio is willing to expand beyond its physical walls, it also is a testament to the commitment of the studio to create a community of inclusiveness.
Lake Minnetonka is always buzzing with fun activities in the summertime! Whether it’s shopping, dining or boating, there is always a way to enjoy the beautiful Minnesota summers. In a fun twist, our Excelsior studio led an outdoor yoga class overlooking Lake Minnetonka and it was a huge hit. Both members and non-members met by the Port of Excelsior for a free class open to all ages and levels.
The beautiful weather and slight breeze made the class enjoyable for all who attended. Practicing yoga on the grass gave an added challenge on the uneven terrain.
Yoga by the Lake is a perfect way to get involved with our YogaFit community. The next Yoga by The Lake class will be held on August 9. Swing through the Excelsior Farmer’s Market before strolling down to the lake for a relaxing yoga class with the Excelsior community!
A few of our Minneapolis studios put together a free outdoor yoga event at Brit’s Pub, a popular downtown Minneapolis spot complete with an outdoor lawn on its roof. The pub holds “Bend It At Brit’s” every year – an event where local yoga studios can organize and conduct classes on its rooftop.
Jodi Sussner, Director of YogaFit Programming, taught the hour-long class that featured balancing, strengthening, and restorative postures.
Approximately 220 people of all ages and yoga experience levels showed up, including some current YogaFit members and instructors. Attendees received sweet swag before class started: free week passes and YogaFit towels. Pub patrons were asking if there were extra mats available so they could join the fun!
“We loved seeing over 200 people doing yoga in the evening hours on a lit-up lawn in downtown Minneapolis on a roof of a pub!” Minneapolis franchisee Ashok Dhariwal said. The event was such a success that the Minneapolis studios hope to host another free outdoor class again next summer.
What’s better than a free yoga class and playing with puppies for a good cause? Our Northeast Minneapolis location did just that, and it was a complete hit! The studio set up a “Meet and Greet” donation class to benefit Safe Hands Rescue, a non-profit organization that helps dogs find new, happy homes.
“I’m a very big animal person, and it means a lot to me to be able to help this organization raise money to help more dogs get a second chance at a home and a good life,” Studio Manager Megan Murphy said.
The event kicked off with a yoga class, then Safe Hands Rescue brought several puppies to the studio for attendees to play with. There were also a few giveaways to local businesses. Murphy said there was a mix of seasoned and new members who attended.
“The one thing that meant the most to me was people taking the time to talk to the Safe Hands representatives to learn more about the organization and what they do,” Murphy said.
Murphy said members absolutely loved it and there was a great energy in the studio. It all comes back to our brand’s passion for helping others, both on and off the mat.
“We thrive on the fact that we are ‘yoga for everyone’ in multiple ways; one of them being ‘yoga for the community,’” Murphy said. “We like people to know we are accessible, and that our community is important to us.”
Last winter, the Linden Hills studio created “Cans for a Cause,” a food drive for the VEAP food collection service. For every new “like” the studio’s Facebook page received, the staff donated one canned food item. The social response was tremendous! Ultimately, the studio donated a total of 525 cans to VEAP at the 50th and France Tree Lighting Ceremony. What a great way to start the holiday season!
